Sign-ups Have Begun: 154 hours to go.
There must be one person in the world having possession of a reminder card which contains the address to this as yet informationless weblog. This post is for you.
At the beginning of the school year, I spoke in Tribe about my goals for the year and this week of prayer was on my mind all the way back in September. My excitement for what's coming is still difficult to articulate, but progress is being made as people get on board with this ridiculous undertaking of 24/7 prayer.
I am particularly pleased by this wordy vision of purpose included in a parental consent form:
The purpose of this event is to encourage the youth and congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos to develop a more intimate relationship with God through a disciplined commitment of prayer. We believe God always listens to our prayers wherever we are – but often we don’t take time to listen to God. We desire for people to deliberately seek God out in a space specifically set aside for prayer & worship, in order that we might all grow in our Christ-likeness. We do not expect, but do indeed hope that God might give us a new vision for the future of our life together.
Why am I pleased? It takes practice and refinement to create the right message for any event. At PCLG, tradition and expected ministry activities trump the need for new marketing because the best supporters of youth ministry in particular know when to expect a carwash, L.O.G. retreat, or mission trip. So I'm pleased because of the new challenge in a new project. I don't deceive myself that the above vision is the ideal marketing, but it's a step in, I think, the right direction.
