The Boyscout Motto

To be prepared for a concentrated hour of prayer, you might begin thinking about that which you'd like to talk with God about. If you find yourself fresh out of ideas, I do recommend checking out the Operation World website to collect prayer needs for the world. The "Ultimate Prayer Guide to Every Nation on Earth" may not be quite so thorough as the CIA world factbook, but we're not spies.

Sign-ups Have Begun: 154 hours to go.

There must be one person in the world having possession of a reminder card which contains the address to this as yet informationless weblog. This post is for you.

At the beginning of the school year, I spoke in Tribe about my goals for the year and this week of prayer was on my mind all the way back in September. My excitement for what's coming is still difficult to articulate, but progress is being made as people get on board with this ridiculous undertaking of 24/7 prayer.

I am particularly pleased by this wordy vision of purpose included in a parental consent form:

The purpose of this event is to encourage the youth and congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos to develop a more intimate relationship with God through a disciplined commitment of prayer. We believe God always listens to our prayers wherever we are – but often we don’t take time to listen to God. We desire for people to deliberately seek God out in a space specifically set aside for prayer & worship, in order that we might all grow in our Christ-likeness. We do not expect, but do indeed hope that God might give us a new vision for the future of our life together.

Why am I pleased? It takes practice and refinement to create the right message for any event. At PCLG, tradition and expected ministry activities trump the need for new marketing because the best supporters of youth ministry in particular know when to expect a carwash, L.O.G. retreat, or mission trip. So I'm pleased because of the new challenge in a new project. I don't deceive myself that the above vision is the ideal marketing, but it's a step in, I think, the right direction.

Marketing Ideas

PCLG turns 125 this year. What will the next 125 years look like? Contemplate a vision of your church and your world by joining the 24-7 prayer vigil May 28-June 4.

Celebrate 125 by praying 24/7

As Presbyterians, we don’t often do radical things. Maybe in the eighties, our youth group did some radical stuff, but that’s a different kind of rad.

Do you think you can pray for one hour? Do you think if you and some other people you know prayed for one whole hour end to end we might be able to pray for a whole week straight? Do you believe God can meet you in prayer? We do.

Join us, meet God, pray hard.
May 28-June 4
24 hours a day for one week.
The Youth Center.

Dear PCLG,
We already know the inside of the youth center is a nexus for spiritual insight, growing faith, and passion. Join us in a 7 day 24 hour a day prayer vigil and find out for yourself.
Sincerely, your kids

On the day Jesus ascended into heaven, his disciples began a prayer meeting. A week later, the Holy Spirit descended on them at the Pentecost festival in Jerusalem. The church grew from 120 to 3000 people in one day.

We’re holding a prayer meeting the week before Pentecost this year.
What could happen?

FOR MOTHER’S DAY-
Make your mama proud. Pray for an hour between noon on May 28 and noon on June 4 in the youth center.
